Cereal bars

    2 tablespoons butter, softened
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 larg egg
    3/4 cup all purpose flour
    3/4 cup whole whear flour
    1/8 teaspoons baking powder
    3/4 cup grape nuts

Preheat oven to 400. Set aside 2 tablespoons grape nuts. In a bowl, blend all indredients. Roll dough into 2 inch by 1/2 inch balls. Press them into rectangular bars. Coat bars with remaining grape nuts and place on nonstick cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes or until slightly brown. Cool completely before eating. Store in airtight container for up to a week. Makes 18 bars.

Nutritional info per bar: 90 calories; 17g carbs; 2g fat; 2g protein

"these bars are lower in calories than many commercial sports bars but they provide a similar ratio of carbs, protein and fat"

My impressions:

I personaly roll them in a mixture of flour and oats. I have yet to get the moisture right. My last batch needed an extra egg and a tiny bit of milk to become moist enough. The best part of this recipe is that you can change it indefinately to change the taste. I usually add chocolate chips, but have added banannas, brown sugar, peanut butter chips, etc, etc... An excelent and cheaper substitute for granola bars.
