DROP-DOWN MENUS REQUIRE JAVA:
----------------------------------------------------
In some places, this website uses drop-down menus which, hopefully, make your navigation easier. The menus were constructed using Java Script, which means if you do not have your web browser's Java Script feature turned on, you must do so.
PERFORMANCE:
-----------------------
The Lightweight Backpacker emphasizes "lightweight graphics !" The underlying rationale is that (1) you've come here for information and (2) you don't want to wait around for heavyweight graphics to load. The goal is that you can move around this site equally as nimble as you can move around in the mountains with an ultralight pack.
The graphics here are relatively small and fast loading. In addition, this site is under continuous scrutiny to reduce quantity and size of graphics wherever possible, yet still maintain an attractive and well-designed presentation.
THE MOTTO & MISSION OF THIS WEBSITE:
-----------------------------------------------------
The motto here is " Traveling Light in the Backcountry is more Fun ". The mission is to share with the entire backpacking community what we know and what you know about gear and lightweight backcountry travel, with the intent of making the backcountry experience more enjoyable. The primary purpose is to communicate the message that backpacking is a much-more enjoyable activity when we pack lightweight with the appropriate gear--nothing more, nothing less ! The secondary purpose is to provide a comprehensive set of tools and information for year-around backpackers--a "One-Stop-Shop".
WHAT IT'S NOT ABOUT:
------------------------------
These pages are not about eating worms, grubs, bugs, roots, etc., sleeping under leaves, chopping down trees for cooking fuel, or hiking barefooted.
DEDICATED TO:
-----------------------
These pages are especially dedicated to all backcountry neurotics who count ounces and grams and buy, sell and make gear in a never-ending quest for the smallest, lightest, highest-quality gear available
(or, alas, affordable).
YOUR INPUT:
-------------------
Your innovations, experiences, and tips toward achieving lightweight nirvana are welcomed here and desired. This site will publish what it can and give the credits to you ! We take ownership of all e-mail submitted and reserve the right to publish comments that are deemed helpful to other readers. We also reserve the right to correct mispelled (oops !) words. Thanks.
BASIC DISCLAIMER:
---------------------------
Finally, If you happen to break your neck in the backcountry while thinking
about something you heard here, we empathize but accept no responsibility.
